Who is Maj?

I’m a 30 year old, sassy gal, who loves Kit Kat Chunky’s and one day hopes to write my very own book. By day, I teach little children how to boss it in the real world and at night I spend my evenings either playing netball, reading books and crying over all the fictional men that will mean I’ll never be able to get a husband.

Top 5 authors?

I’ve tried to include a few that people might not have heard of before!

  1. Sarah J Maas (I know, how cliche!)
  2. Alwyn Hamilton
  3. Melissa Roehrich
  4. Bex Hogan
  5. JLA

Favourite book?

I have a lot of favourite books – some that made me fall in love with reading, others that built me back up from rock bottom and many that gave me a special place to escape to when the world was just a little too much.

That being said, I think my all time favourite book (currently) has to be Crescent City by Sarah J Maas. I was very tentative about picking it up as, at the time, I wasn’t big into adult high fantasy, but I am SO GLAD I did. It had everything I could ever want in a book: sass, mates, morally dark male characters, kick ass female MCs and excellent world building.

Bryce and Hunt are end game, and I will hear nothing else on the matter.

Most read genre?

If 20 year old me could see me reading fantasy now, she would be shook. I always thought magic and mystical creatures wasn’t for me… then, one day, a friend from Twitter suggested I started reading some of her favourite fantasy novels. Next thing you know, I’m devouring books and completely in love with morally grey fae.

Don’t get me wrong, I always enjoyed reading, but when I found fantasy I began fell in love with reading.

That doesn’t mean I’m not partial to a dark romance too 😉

What popular book didn’t live up to the hype for you?

A City of Bones by Cassandra Clare: I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I expected to – especially as it has nearly 4.5 stars on Goodreads and over a million reviews. Clare’s descriptive writing meant I often felt that I could reach out and touch the settling or characters, almost as if I was there with them. Jace was my favourite character, mainly because I am cranky, sarcastic being like he is (and the likeness to people I know in my life!) and I really felt for him at certain parts of the book. However, I am still raging at the ‘twist’ towards the end and his relationship with Clary – even if I knew it was going to happen…

What upcoming release are you looking forward to?

It was Lady of Shadows by Melissa Roehrich, but now that I have a copy of that (literally) in my hands, it HAS to be Crescent City 2! I am very nervous after reading the word ‘platonic’ in the US synopsis of the book, and I am ready to GO TO WAR if I don’t get the outcome I want.

Who is your all time favourite book character?

Boys:

I’m not sure I can pick ONE. But, this year, I have been obsessed with Roth from the White Hot Kiss series (who wouldn’t love the Crown Prince of Hell, right?) and Steele from the Madison Kate series by Tate James. Don’t get me wrong, in real life I could never take on a gang leader, but on paper? Steele is my soul mate.

Girls:

I love Marianne from the Viper series as a female MC – she is strong, sassy and takes no nonsense from anyone – and Vivi from When We Collided will always have a special place in my heart for the first character to ever help me feel seen. Other highlights include Bryce from CC and Nina from the Grishaverse!

If you were stranded on a desert island, which would be the one book you would take?

I think it’s got to be A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas. Who couldn’t read chapter 54 and 55 over and over and over again until they die of dehydration or hopefully get saved by a morally grey pirate.

What is your most unpopular book opinion?

Listening to audiobooks counts as reading and if you read more than 50% of a book before you DNF it then it should count as a ‘read’ book!

Who are your favourite book boyfriends?

  1. Jin from The Rebel of Sands series – he will ALWAYS be my first love and nothing will ever change that
  2. Warwick from Savage Lands – don’t get me wrong, I’d never accept a Warwick in my real life, but in the little world that I’ve created in my head? Yeah, Warwick is the ultimate bad boy for me
  3. Hunt from Crescent City – he is my favourite SJM man and I won’t hear no different
  4. Roth from White Hot Kiss – I’ve been low key obsessed with him all year and haven’t shut up about how amazing he is
  5. Steele from the MK series – he is low key my soul mate and I will never be told differently
  6. Sorin from Lady of Darkness – his love for Scarlett is unfounded and he will do anything to protect her. Plus, he has excellent banter and sass!

Top 3 recommendations?

The Rebel of Sands series by Alwyn Hamilton

This is the first fantasy book that I fell in love with and kept crying happy tears half way through chapters. I will never have a husband, purely based on the character of Jin and what he’s prepared to do for Amarni and how much he loves her.

When We Collided by Emery Lord

I will never stop talking about this book and the special part it has in my heart. It is the book that I think everyone should read in regards to mental health. Click here to read my in depth review!

Lady of Shadows by Melissa Roehrich

This was such an unexpected find for me and a real gem in the fantasy world (my in depth review is coming soon!) Melissa is a beautiful writer and managed to portray Scarlett’s story in such a beautiful way; I laughed, I cried and completely fell in love.

I’d love to find out more about you and your favourite bookish things, so please do take the headings and tag me in the post so I can find out more about you too!
